KEBE releases its 1st Sustainability Report (ESG Report)

KEBE announces the release of its first Sustainability Report (ESG), a voluntary initiative that makes it the first building ceramics producer company in Greece to adopt this practice on its own accord. The report, based on the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards, outlines the company’s strategy, actions, and performance in 2023 across the three key pillars of sustainability. It marks KEBE’s first effort to transparently present data that reflects its commitment to transparency, responsible operations, and sustainable development.

Alongside significant development efforts over the last 10 years—resulting in a 129% increase in turnover—we place great emphasis on enhancing our positive impact through actions benefiting the economy, the environment, and society. We remain true to our founding principles since 1935 when Stylianos Kothalis established the family business, which laid the foundation for our growth in the building materials sector.”

Through its Sustainability Report, KEBE outlines its holistic approach to addressing contemporary economic, environmental, and social challenges, contributing to Sustainable Development and Corporate Responsibility.

Key Environmental Highlights:

  • Increased electricity production from renewable sources by 8.32% in 2023, reaching a total production of 26,587 MWh.

  • Reduced overall electricity consumption by 11%.

  • Cut CO₂ emissions by 11.6%.

  • Reduced airborne dust concentrations in production by 10.8%.

  • Completed restoration of 210.38 hectares, with an additional 160.49 hectares nearing completion.

  • Planted 13,098 trees as part of land restoration programs.

Social Responsibility Highlights:

  • Focused on the development and retention of its workforce, health and safety, and community support.

  • Employed 171 people, with 98% in full-time positions and 100% in permanent roles.

  • 54% of employees are under 30 years old, and 11% are women.

  • Hired 44% more employees in 2023, while turnover decreased by 23%.

  • Ensured 100% of employees are covered by the ISO 45001:2018-certified Health and Safety Management System, while maintaining strict safety protocols and continuous training.

  • Engaged in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives focusing on education, health, and supporting vulnerable groups.

  • Promoted local economic growth through responsible supplier partnerships and participation in programs with positive social impacts.
